Depart by Scoot TR426 for Penang from Changi Terminal 1 this morning. Upon arrival, meet and transfer to lunch at a Michelin guide Peranakan restaurant whose owner shares his passion for Nyonya culture and Peranakan food (Acar fish is a must). Check out the interior décor and the authentic kebayas on display. After lunch we check into our renovated pre-war heritage boutique hotel in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. After freshening up and perhaps exploring the vicinity, we depart by coach to Kimberley Street Food Night Market where you are free to indulge (at own expenses) in local favourites such as Char Koay Teow, Kway Chap, Laksa, Chee Cheong Fun, Cheng Thng and more while enjoying fellowship amongst SH members. Breakfast at hotel. We board our coach for throwback trip to rural past passing Chinese and Malay villages with breathtaking scenery amidst coconut trees and paddy fields to Balik Pulau. We visit a nutmeg farm and a ‘bedak sejuk’ factory. Balik Pulau is of course well known as a durian paradise attracting visitors seeking to sample the "king of fruits" and its diverse varieties, especially during durian season. We visit the Bao Sheng Durian Farm and indulge during our appointed ‘durian’ session. Bidding farewell, we take some time to enjoy stunning Lokarisma pottery crafted by the talented women of the Women Only Society before indulging in a bowl of Balik Pulau’s famous laksa with lime/nutmeg juice. Back to Georgetown, we head to Cintra Street’s Tai Tong Dim Sum Restaurant - a century old traditional restaurant with simplistic antiquity taste. We ease our day with tea and dim sum – indulging in the “good old days” moment (Time permitting, we may head back hotel to freshen up before dinner or do some shopping for local products). Breakfast at hotel and check out. Board our coach and depart for the mainland crossing the Penang Bridge to historic Taiping where we visit Wonder Farm Mushroom, a family-run farm near Matang that has been in business for over 30 years. Learn the entire mushroom cultivation process, starting from the preparation of the compost to the harvesting of the mature mushrooms. Nearing Taiping, we drop by the Great Gourd Herbal Farm in Kamunting where the knowledge and information about the usage and application of Malaysia local herbal plants. We drop by the historic Taiping Lake Gardens, the first public garden in Malaya that was cherished for its beauty and has been well-maintained since its opening in 1884. We then visit one of the oldest coffee mills in Malaysia, Old Master Coffee Taiping which stands out due to its rich heritage and traditional brewing methods that have been passed down through generations. Leaving Taiping, we get to Kuala Sepetang (once known as Port Weld) famous for its seafood lunch. Then visit a traditional kiln to see first-hand how mangrove wood is baked into charcoal before we travel to Peraks’s royal capital of Kuala Kangsar with a photo stop at one of the most beautiful mosques in Malaysia, the Ubudiah Mosque. Reaching Ipoh, we proceed to the Indera Mulia Stadium Food Court for a round of local delicacies (at own expenses) such as Claypot Rice, Curry Mee, Yong Tau Foo, Char Siew Rice, Yong Tau Foo, Kai Si Hor Fun, etc. After a fulfilling evening, we check into our hotel to rest. 04 / 07 Jul Mon Ipoh – Kampar – Gopeng – Batu Gajah – Tanjung Tualang – Ipoh

An early morning wake up call to get ready to coach to Kampar wet market (1 hr drive) to breakfast! With more than 50 food stalls available under one roof, Medan Selera Kampar is the place to go for breakfast. There is sure something for everyone (such as lou shi fun, zha yuan, curry glutinous rice, chee cheong fun, pork bun). And don’t forget to buy some gai zhai paeng! Heading on to Gopeng, we visit Gaharu Tea Valley (HOGA) which prides itself as being the first organic sustainable Gaharu plantation in Malaysia. We board a shuttle van to visit the various locations including the “tree hugging park’ and finally, explore the base shop which offers tastes of products, such as coffee and cream for skin. Moving on, we arrive at Batu Gajah and be greeted by a castle! This unfinished, ruin castle called Kellie’s Castle was built in 1910 and often described as a fascinating historical site with unique architecture and scenic surroundings. We do a photo stop and proceed to Tanjung Tualang, also known as "Freshwater Prawn Town," renowned for its delicious and sought-after freshwater prawns (udang galah) for lunch. Returning to Ipoh, we conduct a sightseeing heritage trail of old Ipoh, covering colonial buildings, street art and points of interest (Concubine Lane). Perhaps drop by for sar hor fun and/or white coffee at a kopitiam. We return to hotel to freshen up before dinner at Durbar at FMS located in a beautifully preserved historical building in the heart of Ipoh where diners claim the Hainanese chicken chop served is “second to none”. After breakfast, we check out and board our coach to Tambun Pomelo GoChin Agro Farm known for the juiciest, sweetest and biggest in Malaysia due to the abundance of limestone in this area. After tasting/purchasing, we head for an early lunch before reaching the Ipoh International Airport for our flight home to Singapore via Scoot TR409 |
